Is it possible to go beyond classical beam model i.e. like timoshenko beam model by simply perturbing the displacement field derived in CBT and using classical variational approach on the energy?

I have been trying to derive the timoshenko like beam theory , like the one mentioned in Dr. Hodges's book "Non linear composite beam theory" but for infinitesimal strain. It has been mentioned in Dr Wenbin Yu's paper titled "Beam models" that on perturbing the displacement fields derived as the Classical beam theory one wouldn't get major terms. If so then how does one go about deriving the Timoshenko Like beam theory for Infinitesimal Strain?

Direct expansion will end up in derivatives of the classical strain measures. To relate this energy functional to Timoshenko model, one has to express classical strain measures in terms of Timoshenko measures. And try to minimize whatever is not in Timoshenko form.
