How to use effective properties obtained from TexGen4SC for shell structure.

Recently, i obtain the TexGen4SC to obtain the effective properties of textile, but there are some questions . I build two SGs for example in the software TexGen4SC, and my shell structure is a laminate just two layers, so I use the first SG to obtain the effective properties for layer one in structure , and then the second SG is for the other layer,  the property assignment is completed in ABAQUS, the understanding or method that applying textile material to laminate shell structure is right? Thank you!

If you want to model it as a plate, then it is better to obtain effective plate properties (A, B, D matrices for classical plate model) using TexGen4SC directly. You need to decide with respect to the plate reference, what is the corresponding plate genome. You only have one SG through the thickness, it should include both layers.

If you use a traditional two-step homogenization approach, then you use one SG for each layer to homogenize it to a 3D solid (6x6 stiffness matrix), then use these properties as inputs for the composite layup analysis in Abaqus to carry out the laminate shell analysis as it is made of multiple homogeneous layers. The results of this approach will not be that accurate because the first step requires scale separation while the thickness of the shell is almost the same as the SG size.

    Yang,

Prof, Yu has provided two approaches for solving your problem. The first one would be more accurate if you can identify the SG for your plate model (only one SG for your shell structure instead of two SGs). You can find some useful references (Prof. Yu's presentation slides) about how to identify SGs on cdmhub. Then, you can use "General Shell stiffness" in Abaqus to input the A, B and D matrices which are the outputs for MSG plate model using TexGen4SC. In this way, you can get almost the same accurate results (displacements, stresses/strains) as the directly numerical simulation.

You are welcome. Feel free to let others know cdmHUB and SwiftComp. In the future, it is better to post your questions inside https://cdmhub.org/groups/yugroup/forum to get quicker answers regarding MSG/SwiftComp.
