Is there an option within the main preVABS file (perhaps in the <analysis> or <general> settings) to ensure that the VABS input file includes the trapeze effect (VABS trapeze flag is 1).

Yes. Under the <analysis> section, input <trapeze>1</trapeze>, where '1' switches on the effect and '0' switches off.
