Cross-Section Properties

  1. hamid jax

    Hi all

With note that bellow picture we have a wing structure with variable elastic axis a long span. when we create input file for GEBT, we choose properties of "Section A" or "Section B"? In fact which section must be analysis with VABS and use into GEBT?

It is better to use section A as an oblique section. You need to input the angles into VABS. ---- Emailed forum response from wenbinyu@purdue.edu

        hi prof Yu

Can i use properties of "Section A" without oblique flag into GEBT?

Is the application process of GEBT as follows?

        1) Calculate the elastic axis along the wing with VABS without oblique_flag

2)Create elastic axis (in general state) with multi beam (or multi member) at GEBT

        3) Recalculate the stiffness properties with oblique_flag in VABS for every station of elastic axis. In fact cross-section must be perpendicular to the elastic axis?

4)Transfer properties of calculated at stage2 into GEBT_input file and Analysis

You can try. And also you need to use many sections because the section is changing along the length. We are developing a new method which can handle this in a much better way. ---- Emailed forum response from wenbinyu@purdue.edu

Should the cross section be perpendicular to the elastic axis?

You don’t have to compute the elastic axis first. Chose a reference line of your own choice and compute the sectional properties using VABS, then input to GEBT for analysis. ---- Emailed forum response from wenbinyu@purdue.edu

So, given the above figure, is it enough to analyze multiple wing cross-section in a x1 direction in VABS and use the results at the GEBT?

It can be normal or oblique. ---- Emailed forum response from wenbinyu@purdue.edu

can i modelling the structure shown in the follow figure?

      Steps :

      1) Run cross-sections (sections that perpendicular to x1) with VABS

      2) Transfer VABS results into GEBT and Create one member beam

      Is above steps ok?
