In this paper, a multiscale modeling framework is proposed to simulate the macroscopic response of a fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite through a subscale full finite element model. This approach shows a distinct advantage since the microstructure of the composite is modeled explicitly. Therefore, this approach is useful for progressive damage analysis of composite structures to capture damage progression at the fiber and matrix level. Fig. 1 shows the modeling framework illustrating the connection between the macroscale model and the subscale micromechanics model.
