Abstract

Finite element models are being actively developed to model composite systems. One such is the MAT213 material model implemented into LS-DYNA [1,2]. MAT213 is an orthotropic material model with three distinct components - elastic-inelastic deformation, damage and failure. The model is driven by a minimum of twelve stress-strain curves input as tabulated data - tension and compression along three principal directions, shear in three principal planes and off-axis tension or compression tests. Constructing the input from raw experimental data can be a tedious and challenging task, and the focus of this paper is to show the development of a computer program to aid in this task. The Experimental Data Processing (EDP) program is a Windows-based program with a graphical-user interface that has been developed to post-process the raw data obtained from these experiments.

During the composite testing, the force and displacement data is obtained from the testing frame setup. In addition to this, the full-field displacement data is recorded using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) setup. Typically, the data force-displacement and full-field displacement data are stored in two different files. The user can instruct EDP to read data from these files and process them. Some of the major features of the program include: editing raw data, techniques for removing outliers, filtering the data using a variety of techniques such as  moving median, simple moving average (SMA), polynomial moving average (PMA), Lowess and Loess filtering methods, carrying out regression analysis for curve fitting, and finally, generating the model curve for input into a constitutive model.
