My name is Jake and I am currently employed at Raytheon, an RTX business located in Tucson, AZ. My title is a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer working on the Next Generation Stinger program. I absolutely love it out here in Tucson and love working in this field as it proved to be very challenging, rewarding, and cutting edge.
Originally from Detroit, MI, I received my undergrad degree in Aerospace Engineering from Western Michigan University. I took a year off from school during the Summer 2017 through Spring 2018 to work at three NASA locations as an intern: White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, NM, Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA, and Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL. This experience reinforced my decision to work in the industry as an engineer and gave me the opportunity to see some of the most fascinating projects going on in the country. I worked on the new generation rocket Space Launch System, learned about pressure vessel surface defects as part of a material defect investigative team, and continued research on Active Flow Control on conventional aircraft wing to reduce cruise drag on commercial aircraft.
Seeking to polish my academic skills, I joined the highly reputable Purdue University program of Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering to obtain my advanced degree. This institution holds up to the name of being one of the best engineering schools in the country, I am proud to call myself a Boilermaker!
