Abstract
Flyer announcement for the 2014 Composites Design, Analysis and Manufacturing Workshop to be held at Purdue University, August 5-7, 2014.
The Composites Design and Manufacturing HUB is holding a hands-on workshop in composites design, analysis and manufacturing. Join us at Purdue University on August 5-7 where we will overview the fundamentals of composites design, manufacturing and analysis. Each morning will consist of lectures and simulation demonstrations outlining the theoretical fundamentals of composites manufacturing, analysis and design. Manufacturing methods and phenomenon to be discussed include layup and autoclave cure, advanced tape placement, RTM/VARTM, additive manufacturing, heat transfer, cure kinetics,
Darcy flow, residual stress and spring-back. Micromechanical, lamina and laminate-level analyses will be outlined, together with
strength prediction, thermal stresses and warping. Additionally, commercial simulation tools for the design, manufacture and analysis of composite structures will be demonstrated. In the afternoons, each participant will manufacture their own composite part and will gain hands-on experience with composite mechanical testing and microscopy examination and will investigate warpage and spring-back of actual composite parts and structures. Contact Johnathan Goodsell, jgoodsell@purdue.edu by July 11, 2014 to register.
