I was born 54 years ago in a city called Toluca in Mexico, a beautiful city that sits in a valley that is overseen by the “Xinantecatl” a volcano that is the city guardian, and it was also my playground.
30 years ago I started a Journey as a Mechanical Engineer, and this journey has been filled with countless blessings and great opportunities. I feel very blessed and grateful for all the great organizations I have had the chance to work for, the many countries I have been able to visit and the friends I have made all over the world.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.”
1 Chronicles 16:34
I graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from the "Universidad Autonoma de Mexico" in 1994 after graduation I started working for a food machinery company "Buhler" that has headquarters in Switzerland, I moved very quickly through the organization ranks and I was selected as part of a group to go to Switzerland for training and accelerated development, I worked in projects for the USA, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and Spain, after a few years of traveling and working hard the company wanted me to go back to Mexico, to continue my development there, however, I was not ready to go back stop traveling and settle, so I decided to request a sabbatical year, sadly the company did not have that policy and I decided to part ways and embark in an adventure trough Europe backpacking.
I started backpack traveling from Hamburg in Germany all the way to Sicily in Italy, this adventure took me a year, during that time I served tables, cleaned toilets, mopped floors and all sorts of different jobs, some days I had to sleep on the street or under the stars in remote places, I traveled by boat, train, motorcycle, bicycle and of course also walked, during this time I enjoyed the company of many different people from all over the world, I also found , many hobbies I enjoy, like; mountain biking, motorcycling, scale model assembly and also the most important thing, my faith, which has grown stronger every day, this time on my own made me reflect on what is important to me and what I value the most.
After that wonderful experience I returned to my beloved Mexico, I remember how my Mom went to pick me up and how she did not recognized me with no hair, thin and dressed as a hobo, it was something she remembered and always talked about.
Once back in Mexico I looked for a job and one of the many friends I made helped me to get one working for Bayer, where I worked for over 12 years and where I held many positions, ranging from project engineer on the pharma side of the business to Engineering director for a chemical plant, I worked in projects in Germany, Mexico, the USA and many different countries. Finally after many years Bayer decided to close the plant and lay everybody off. At the begging I was sad and worried, but once again I saw how God’s plan is way better than anything we can imagine, that ending was a new beginning, I started my own company and business was good, I also started a Family. Even tough the business was good and we where thriving, we felt we were not safe with the cartels taking over Mexico, so we took the decision to start a new life in another country, we did some research and decided that the south west of Canada or the Northwest of the USA was the ideal place for many reasons, I looked for a job, got one and without any other help from the hiring company than a letter stating they gave me job, we got our Visas, moved our selves and came to work in Portland and live at Vancouver WA, on March 2012 we arrived with nothing but 4 suitcases, two girls and faith in God.
We started a new life here 12 years ago, since then we got our permanent residency and I switched to a job that I love, working as a Manufacturing Engineer for Boeing, here I can enjoy the great outdoors mountain biking, riding my dirt bike, hiking, camping, paddle boarding etc. My daughters have joined the scouts, robotics teams and other activities that fill us with pride, my wife is thriving as a teacher and we also found a community that we serve trough our church and the scouts, giving us the great gift of being able to give and help those in need.
Last year I found that Boeing sponsors employees for taking Master Degrees and again as I always do, I jumped head first in the crazy adventure of going back to school after 30 years, and yes I realized I have forgotten most of the school but God is always with me and with him by my side I fear nothing, and I am right, as proof my first grade last fall a B+ in multidisciplinary design optimization, even though I started re learning matrix algebra from practically 0, not great but not bad also for a guy who works full time, is part of the church council, is one of the adult leaders for a troop with 70 scouts and also mentors robotics in his daughter’s high school.
