Micromechanics Challenge
In cooperation with academia, industry and commercial software providers, the Composites Design and Manufacturing HUB is pleased to announce the Micromechanics Simulation Challenge. The problems in Level 1 of the simulation challenge may be found here . Additionally, stp and iges files of the complex microstructure geometries considered in Case 5 and Case 6 of the challenge are available.
The Micromechanics Challenge will consist of 3 levels, each with benchmark-type problems to assess the strengths and trade-offs of existing micromechanics codes. Each level increases in complexity, with Level 1 being restricted to microstructures with linear-elastic phases. Level 2 will treat non-linear phase properties. Finally, Level 3 will include damage and failure prediction for microstructures considered in Levels 1 and 2.
We propose two options for executing the simulation challenge. For those who wish to execute the simulation challenge internally, we ask that results be submitted to Johnathan Goodsell, jgoodsel@purdue.edu, by May 15, 2015. For those who prefer for a member of the cdmHUB team to execute the challenge, we will provide the results for your review by April 15, 2015 and ask that you return them by May 15, 2015.
Results and comparisons will be made available on www.cdmHUB.org and may be presented at conferences and published in journals to maximize the impact of the simulation challenge on the industry.
Please respond to jgoodsel@purdue.edu with your willingness to participate and indicate whether you’d prefer to execute the simulation challenge internally or to have a member of the cdmHUB team execute the challenge, subject to your review.

Hello
ShallI ask what would be the results of the revisions of the challenge? and does a normal and conventional application of perriodic boundary conditions  create an acceptable result ? or they will be compared to the uploaded codes functionality and results they give ?

We will accept any direct results directly from available tools. What kind of boundary conditions to apply is up to each tool. Anybody is welcome to contribute results. We will use commercial 3D FEA code such as ANSYS or ABAQUS to model the microstructure subject to periodic boundary conditions.

The results are in terms of effective properties and local stresses. I don’t know what you mean by normal and conventional application of periodic boundary conditions. Commercial FEA codes such as Ansys or Abaqus allows you to apply periodic boundary conditions rigorously.
